another needle scaler question

does a needle scaler operate like a drywall screwgun?, as in there needs to be pressure on the tool to make it do it's thing.or is it only trigger action? have been making dyed concete outdoor tabletops and was thinking maybe a scaler could be used as a form vibrator but didn't really know how they operated.will it work? or will it destroy everything in it's path? thanks ,,daz
Reply:As long as you keep the needles out of the wet concrete it will work fine as a vibrator.  Dipping the needles into wet concrete itself won't provide much vibration.You'd probably get better results mounting a vibratory motor directly onto the form though, Grainger sells a small one.I believe one of the Communist Chinese Box Stores also sells a mini concrete vibrator that directly connects to a drill motor.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-

Reply:You would need to hold the needles against the form to vibrate the concrete.  So yes, you do need pressure on the end of the needles to make them work, just like an air chisel or hammer.In fact, I would think an air hammer would work better, but maybe it's too forceful, I'm not much of a concrete expert, in fact I'm completely and utterly ignorant.
