Looks like the Florida summer is here. When I got home from going to the Rifle range, Friday "She who must be obeyed" had the Central AC on. I guess everyone in the neighborhood had the same idea. Early this morning Progress Energy pulled the plug in my neighborhood. I sat for a while until I got ambition ( meaning hot), and broke out the "Ranger 8" This is the first time I powered the homestead with it. The last time we had power problems, the Ranger was off at a job site. Well It performed it's duties flawlessly I had 118 volts at the 120 volt recpt. @ 60.9Hz. The Freezer stayed frozen, Dogzilla stayed cool. and life was good. I had a envious neighbor giving me a dirty look, I guess due to the noise on Sunday morning.I guess this was a good drill for the upcoming Hurricane season. Attached Images

Reply:Dogzilla was on duty. And part of the preparedness for Hurricanes and other disasters, There's a M590-A1 shotgun loaded with two #4 buckshot, four Double O buckshot, and two slugs within easy reach I read reports from Homestead florida When Andrew went through. I think a Military shotgun with a fixed bayonet would discourage pontential looters.
Reply:Fl jim, glad to hear the ranger 8 pulled you through. As for the m590, back in '92 after the tornado tore up my neighborhood including my house, my Rem 870 spent a couple of nights across my knees as I watched over what was left. 8 in the mag and 1 up the pipe just gives you that warm, cozy, secure feeling. Reply:Good going. I have an old Onan for lack of power days.
Reply:Jim, how did you wire for powering the homestead? Did you backfeed the panel or had you prepared something else for this case?I've been planning my way to do it, but haven't gotten off my butt and done it yet. Then again, I'm still trying to figure out what a "hurricane" is...
Reply:Mac, take a close look at the picture, the answer is concealed under about a roll of tape. Given his former affiliation with the shut business, probably #88 tape.We can't print the real answer here cause FP&L would be on his ***.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Of course the proper way would be a three way interlocked disconnect. Another way would be to back feed the breaker that feeds the outlet I use for my MM210, with a double male "NEMA 10-50 P" Jumper cord, ensuring that the main feeder breaker for the panel is open. I've pulled a lot of meters, and connected generators to Sewage lift stations during storm caused power outages. Then bummed seals from the power company to reinstall meters Franz: Of course 3M 88, covered with 33+ |
