I have seen countless super cheap portable corral panels and I was wondering what gauge pipe or tube those things are made out of. I need a bunch of them but I can't see buying them pre made when I can do it myself so I just need to figure out what type of material commercial ones are made with.
Reply:They are different depending on what the are for. The stronger ones are called bull panels around here. For medium duty I would think 2" sch 10 would be fine.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Thanks I'm wanting to build something light duty since it will be for sheep n pigs but also have electric tape on it for added insurance.
Reply:I used to help with Mutton Bustin' and the panels we used were about 1.25" sch 10. Real light but strong enough to climb over.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:And here I thought we were going to talk isolated neutrals, electrons and all things sparky
Reply:Some are mad of tin foil rolled into a tube, avoid those. If you are going to make then, then 1.25 sch 10 would be just fine.
Reply:I hate tinfoil disguised as a "quality" gate then have one little thing happen then crumple into a useless piece of junk.

Reply:The FIL took a bunch of chain link fencing out of his property, I build some for my gfs mini horses. I recycled some old 5th wheel pins from work that they were throwing away to hook them together. I build other ones for a customer, bought new material. 1x1x cant recall the thickness now, super light tho. Attached ImagesNothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:Found a few more pics. The first few show me using a nomad welding table to tack up the outer frame. I welded that galvanized tubing outside with self shielded wire btw. The 4th pic shows some stalls I made with a couple of the panels. I made a frame that dowels up from the bottom. The frame is screwed to the floor, then a layer of heavy rubber matting is screwed over top of that. Each bar is padded with pool noodles that I sliced down the center. The last pic is the panels I made for the customer.Nothing Ever Got Done By Quitting, Never Give Up.
Reply:That is really neat how you built that, that is almost exactly what I would like to build.
Reply:I suggest making the top and ends from one piece and just bending it. Cuts down on corrosion and injuries.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
