Cool color film made by GE to promote their stick welders.  Very corny, but neat to watch old welding on a farm and in color.  @ about 1:20 we discover the farmer's name in the old film is "Glen Beck."  Another funny thing in the film is that the narrator says something to the effect that  "...it (welding) doesn't take any special training.  Just an afternoon of practice.." (20:30).   All too funny. It's about 30min long, but it's better than watching a mindless sitcom on TV.   Grab yourself a beer.  I think y'all  might enjoy this film.  Here's the link:[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOcTSxr4Wi8&feature=youtube_gdata_player"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOcTSxr4Wi8&feature=youtube_gdata_player[/ame]Last edited by SuperArc; 06-25-2012 at 04:37 AM.Lincoln Power Mig 216Lincoln AC/DC-225/125Miller  625 X-Treme PlasmaMiller 211 Forney 95FI-A 301HF 91110Victor Journeyman O/PMilwaukee DaytonMakita  Baileigh NRA Life Member

Reply:Sheesh, I started in watching,   I just came in from the morning heat, the goats,  and all. I had lunch, settled in.  and in about 3 minutes I was ZZZZZZzZZZZzz as the film rolled on.   Just like Ag equipment class in HS. I'll go splash my face,  get a soda and try again later... but, it looks great!  thanks for posting.Lincoln Power MIG 215Lincoln WeldPak 3200HDLincon ProCut 25Lincoln WeldanPower 225 AC/DCIf all else fails... buy more tools
Reply:Great video! The old equipment brings back many memories of my childhood on my grandfathers "Grade B" dairy.  My father was an "Ag Engineer" for the University of Missouri Extension Service.  As I declutter the homeplace, I have come across many boxes of hand outs and "guide sheets" detailing a lot of home made equipment and contraptions that a farmer could build.  It is pretty much on the crude side of technical but it got the job done.  Thanks for the memories.RogerOld, Tired, and GRUMPYSalesman will call, Batteries not included, Assembly is required, and FREE ADVICE IS WORTH EXACTLY WHAT YOU PAY FOR IT!Dial Arc 250HFThunderbolt 225 AC/DCAssorted A/O torches

Reply:SuperArc, thanks for the movie.  Life sure was a lot easier then.  Took me back to my Uncles farm in Connecticut.  Remember riding on the hay bailer as a kid.  Thanks again.  Best  Bob
Reply:I liked the close-ups of the puddle and arc.  I've not seen anything as good in any modern videos.
Reply:I love it... welding on a hay baler that's still full of hay in the middle of a hay field.Later on, they say "Don't weld near flammable materials, like hay."
Reply:The changing from the steel wheel to rubber tires hit a note for me. I weld for the Amish in our area and am always converting rims for rubber tires to steel.Kinda what goes around comes around. Attached ImagesTrailblazer 302Hobart Stickmate AC/DCLincoln SP 135 TSmith torchSpoolmatic 30A

Reply:You guys can joke all you want but remember life was very hard for the farmers back then. For a farmer to have electricity was amazing in itself. (Thanks REA)Yes if a farmer could "scab" it back together with only a half day of practice, then it was probably good enough to save a couple of lost days of labor. When I went to school, we still had books on the shelf with all kinds of labor saving ideas. You don't understand it until you spend a year farming with horses. We bought our first tractor in 1962.Thanks for sharing the video!

Reply:I had to make my own hammer like the one the farmers used in the video/film. Im more of an axe man so I changed it a bit but my TIG welds need practice. I can say that I slide my axe to chip flux instaed of pound away like them old boys did.  I dont have a plasma torch so this axe was done with a die grinder and cutoff blade last night.Yes , I can drive a dritight nail thru a penny in one swack. My weldsIm just a mad man with an axe so dont piss me offMy Christian/crusader crosses in the pic were hammered out of nickels and cut with a dremmel.  I was bored and TEXAS Ranger badges would be boring.
