I recently bought a miller syncrowave 200, It came with an aircooled torch. I was wondering If I should just sell this torch before I use it, and upgrade to a water cooled. I don't plan on doing any heavy welding but I may do some pretty long beads on 1/8th aluminum, and stainless. Here is the torch it came with. http://www.weldcraft.com/pdfs/WP-17.pdf Thanks Mango Matto
Reply:If you plan to do a lot of 1/8" alum, get a water cooled torch, or upgrade to an aircooled torch with a higher duty cycle like the CK 17 series torches that have a 150 amp 100%duty cycle vs the Weldcraft's 150 amp 60% duty cycle. With the CK torch all you'd need to replace is the torch head, not everything else.If I did more alum welding with my Sync 200 I'd definatly opt for a water cooled 20 series torch. I'd have to start watching the duty cycle on the machine however running 150+ amps regularly for extended periods. Running 150 amps thru a Sync 200 for extended periods is getting close to heavy welding. You'll get the fan to come on fairly quickly. The air cooled torch getting hot is an easy way to stay inside the duty cycle limits on the machine..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:I upgraded to a wp-20 a few years ago and have never looked back. Much more comfortable and I find the torch parts last a lot longer than my air cooled torch. For shop work I think water cooled is the way to go without question.

Reply:The WP 20 is also much smaller and more maneuverable. The cables are very flexible.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum |
