Drill Press Woes

Fired up my lil Homier Drill press tonight for the first time and the dang drill chuck dropped one of the jaws. I think I can fix it if I can get the chuck itself back off. It is just a press on fit type of chuck. Any ideas on removing this? Thanks in advance.

Reply:Keep in mind this is a cheap Homier Drill, I'm pretty sure the arbor of the pully assembly is machined to directly accept the chuck.

Reply:I'll give it the once over and see if it has a slot for a drift. If not I'm guessing the pickle fork might work to remove it. And for sure a new chuck this one bites... the one jaw the top thread was not formed correctly and that allowed it to fall out of the chuck. Go figure.

Reply:Move the table off to the side, and run the spindle part way down, and have somebody hold the handle for you.Slide the pickle fork onto the shaft behind the chuck, and give the shaft side of the fork a good sharp whack with a hammer.  That ought to have the chuck off quick.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Hehehe, ran out to the shop and pulled it apart with the pickle fork...practically fell off. Seems to be a 5/8" shaft. The chuck itself says 1.5-13mm B16.

Reply:Cool.  What taper did it end up being?I'm thinking of getting some morse tapers for my clarke, just to mess around.  Maybe a drill socket for a really big twist drill, that'd be fun.
Reply:Good job Hobweld. The new chuck will make it a nice drill press. By the way, the way I got my chuck off was by tapping the side with a wooden mallet. Reply:B16 turned out to be the taper type. Not sure if that is morse or jacobs. Would be good to know. Will do a little searching to see if I can find out. Thanks again.

Reply:Received the new chuck from Grizzly friday. Installed it without a hitch and all is right with the world once more.  Actually the new chuck is twice the weight and size of the old one definately better made. Thanks for all the help gentlemen!

Reply:1/32 - 1/2 B16 was 5.96 and 6.95 s&h...hehehe go figure. It was a closeout  deal. Works great though.
