I am having trouble with the jack shaft on my gokart. moving. I thought if I could weld it. it would be stronger than bolts. and not move. But I don't know about welding. I purchase an 80 amp 120 volt welder used. and I want to know what size rod to use. I have 3/16 rod but it is old and my freind said it must have gotten wet. because its hard to start. can you help . all I want to do is weld aprox 1/8 inch square tubing to a 1/8" plate and I don't know the wall thickness of the round tubing i'm guessing smaller that 1/8" . Reply:How are your stick welding skills?3/16 stick rod like 7018 requires 200+ amps to run. Your little 80 amp welder will have problems striking an arc with a rod that big. 3/16 rod will also burn holes in the material you want to weld. I'm guessing your friend meant he had some 1/16 rods? The 1/16 rod will be easier for your small welder to run.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Don't bother... another spam thread copy/paste from Yahoo answers. OP is gone..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear.
