This is not new, but in talking to Gerry in the UK, he is not too far from The Isle of Man Military Museum. The older, kinda bald man, featured has a crew that finds and researches and restores WWII tanks. It is amazing that some can even be disassembled without total destruction. When I saw the M4 Sherman episode, it amazed me that they could take two M4's, one with a better anterior section and one with a better posterior section, cut them in half and put them back together....and get the turret ring to fit back as to allow the turret to rotate perfectly. These gentlemen are very humble, but very talented. Unlike some of the brash, look at me, know it all guys on TV (in the US), these guys are so talented, so confident and so unpretentious is a joy to see. Problem? They solve it. No yelling and blaming others. Just pure quality talent and work and professionalism.. Very nice to see and probably to work with. This series re-runs periodically on the Military Channel. Simply searching for Tank Overhaul will find the episodes and times. Here is the episode and the cutting starts around 10:00 and welding follows. I thought some forum members would enjoy seeing a major project, seeing their equipment from around the world, and hearing the theory of what they must do and how they do it.Last edited by TxDoc; 01-04-2013 at 12:56 AM.TxDoc's Photos Lincoln SP175 PlusLincoln Power Mig 256Lincoln 250 LX Spool Gun Lincoln Precision Tig 225 Hypertherm 600 KMG 2x72 Belt GrinderBaldor 812RE Grinder
Reply:I'm with you TxDoc, I watched a lot of episodes and noticed the same, nice to not have the drama. When someone is good at what they do, they make it look easy....these guys make it look easy.If you don't want to stand behind our Troops, feel free to stand in front of them.
Reply:Yes, pretty clever that way this can be done.A neighbor and friend does this too. He buys old WWII tanks in Europe, chops them into pieces to be shipped back to the USA as scrap, then reassembles them in his shop in Milford MA.He currently has several models available for purchase. If anyone wants a WWII tank, American or German, this is the place to go: Northeast Military Vehicle Services, LLC: http://www.site.ww2mv.com/Say "Hello!" to my little friend!- MondoLast edited by Mondo; 01-04-2013 at 03:21 AM.Reason: Addad photograph of Sherman tank.Member, AWSLincoln ProMIG 140Lincoln AC TombstoneCraftsman Lathe 12 x 24 c1935Atlas MFC Horizontal MillCraftsman Commercial Lathe 12 x 36 c1970- - - I'll just keep on keepin' on.
