Arc One Stick 80 amp

I just got my HF Arc One stick 80 amp welder and used it at a gym repairing a cable guide on a piece of workout equipment.This cable guide doesn't support any weight or have any stess on it, it is just a guide.  I made it out of 3/16" rod.  Using 5/64" 6013 rod.  I had to weld from a ladder, but not too high, 3/4 feet.Little welder strapped over my shoulder, turned to about 65 amps. and the weld was done in less then 10 seconds.  All I can say is...sweet!!Nice arc, easy start, good pentitration.  The best was the weight.  I could not really tell I had it on.  This was my first weld with it, and even though I understand the limit of it's capities, for this kind of work it was perfect.  I mostly wanted it for field work when I install handrails and repairing railings.   So tonight I'll weld up some handrail tubing and see how it works.  I'll let y'all know.  By the way, it's made in Italy.Also that first welding job, paid for it.  I got it on sale from HF for $129.

Reply:Slag King and Vipermanz, even though this is an old thread, I hope you can answer my question about the 80 amp stick welder.In the summer 2004 HF catalog on page 73, they show an 80ampinverter arc welder for $129.99.  Is this the welder that you used?This unit only weighs 8 lbs.I don't understand inverter technology, and would appreciate itif you could help me understand what it adds to the arc.Thanks,Don in Louisiana
