Reply:I guess an easy way to put it would be that silicon bronze rod would be the brazing rod for electric welding & brass rod for gas welding.
Reply:John, what does the AWS classification start out with on your filler rod?  If it starts out with RB then it is suitable for both brazing and braze welding.  If it starts out with B, then it means it is used for brazing only.  When you braze or braze weld it means you are using a non-ferrous filler material that melts at over 840*F.  The difference between brazing and braze welding is  that in brazing the filler is drawn into the joint by capillary action.  Most copper (CU) based fillers are brass, which is a copper-zinc alloy.  The fillers called bronze have have a small percent of tin ( usually less than 1%) added to increase hardness.  Silicates are added to some filler materials usually to increase flowablity and to help scavenge oxygen from the site.
Reply:Thanks for all the replys. I am only gas welding with Brass rod over welds on a motorcycle oil tank to counter the welds easier  before chrome plating.John
