Has anyone tried the conversion that they have? Sounds like a decent option for very light aluminum work. Will try it through the mug gun first before I drop $300 on it for the limited capability it would give. Currently have a HH 140
Reply:Don't expect great results either way. Trying to push alum wire thru the standard mig gun usually ends up as an effort in futility. Even with a spoolgun, that machine really doesn't have the balls to do much alum. You'll have to max out both the wire speed and heat settings to have any chance at all with alum. Even then max you can do might be 1/16". Much thinner and you'll be too hot and blow holes thru it, much thicker and you won't have the output to do decent welds.You really need at least a 180 amp class mig to do 1/8" alum, and even more output if you want to do anything thicker. Anything much thinner than 1/16" usually ends up in the realm of tig rather than mig..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:I've installed the br kit on my HH135. Wanting the ablility to weld AL "never have done it before" and after some practice I was may some decent welds. I had to preheat with the torch and get the material super clean. The unit is too small to do anything over 1/16" very limited. If I could have a do over, I would save the money and buy a bigger machine with spool gun capabilities. Jg
