When using silicone bronze to braze steel with tig should I use A/C or D/C? Thanks.
Reply:Why would you not use oxy/acetylene?Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:Dc...
Reply:DC- just like steel, just enough heat to melt the Silicone Bronze.....Great for sheet metal mock up on hot rods  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock

Reply:Welding bronze should be done AC but brazing with bronze should be done DC (higher heat input).
Reply:I just started using SB a while ago and its pretty cool to work with. I use dc.

Reply:I just started using silicone/bronze.  First project was a model airplane exhaust.  .019 stainless with a 3/8 hole blasted by another guy with a mig welder.  Nice mess.  the pipe had broken loose from the exhaust flange and he tried to weld it with a back yard mig.Long story short the silicone bronze worked very well and made a nice neat repair.  He could have bought 2 new ones for the cost of the repair.  I explained that in these cases I charge once for the repair and once for penalty for making the job harder than necessary.  (nice way to say stupidity)  hahaI also just completed making scale exhaust for my sons big 120" B-25 model bomber.  I used copper fittings that I trimmed 60 % of the weight out.  i silicone bronzed the copper to the steel flanges and tig welded the copper fittings.  I would have liked to use Helium but it was just too expensive for this.  DC worked great.  I even pulsed with the Syncrowave.  The copper transfers heat so fast that the pulse was more like micro spot welds but they still looked nice and my cut up weld test samples showed good penetration.

Reply:Dosn't brazing by definition have filler drawn in by capilary action?  The line between soldering and brazing kind of at a specific temperature.  I am not sure what filler rod I have that works nicely with tig, most likely it is silicon bronze but not sure, I use the same polarity as for steel.  The idea is to stay below the melting of the base metal so it isn't welding is it?
