I own a 33 gal. Craftsman air compressor. It's prolly about 10 years old,I guess. It doesnt have a pressure gauge or a auto shutoff on it. Only a manual shutoff. It there an aftermarket gauge I can put on it?Hobart Stickmate LX 235 ACEverlast Powerarc 140ST DC InverterPowcon 300ST
Reply:Pressure gauge is easy. All you need is a T some where in the line and a gauge. Does it have a safety valve? If nothing else I'd make sure it does and make darn sure it functions. Honestly from what you describe, it sounds a bit scary as is..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:Ok I'm confused. If it doesn't have a gauge, how do you tell what 100 psi is?Post up some picts of the machine and we can tell you if it has an over pressure valve (OPV) and where it is. Usually there is a split ring attached to it so you can pull it to manually dump the air in case of an emergency. If you haven't yet read it, I'd strongly suggest you read about Mike's experience with an old compressor.  Over pressuring a compressor tank can be FATAL! I try to pull the blow off on my compressor at least every other time when I'm done with my small compressor, just to make sure it functions and hasn't gotten stuck for some reason.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...old-compressor!.No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:And I pulled the safety relief out to make sure it was working shortly before the tank ruptured.                                               MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:There are more compressors than you think riged up just to go when plugged in.They are all too common. A pressure shut off switch is only $20, a pressure relief $7 to $16, a pressure gauge $10.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Reply:go to your local hardware store and pick up a pressure switch, most of them come preset at 120psi and are adjustable from there, really easy to plumb one in and they are cheap insurance that could save your life and your garage from becoming a bomb crater.
