I need a engine welder for farm/ranch. I'm not looking for miller vs lincoln I like both just need to know witch one will work for me best. I want a low rpm diesel water cooled engine as all my tractors and trucks are diesels so I don't have to have another gas tank. I would like run a suitcase mig and a aluminum spool gun off it plus have ac power for tools as most of the time I'm no where near power. I looked at the miller pro 300 as there is a used close for sale. It looks good and is quite and is a fuel sipper. It will be used for me and my friends I need it to be reliable as when I go to fix a tractor I don't need to be fixing my welder frist. What model do you think will work best and I will be buying it used as I know how to check equipment and can't justify new for something that I'm not making a living off ofThanks Matthew
Reply:Low rpm diesels are almost all large machines. The smaller diesels like Trailblazers or Bobcats from Miller are all high rpm diesels. One thing to watch with big diesels is that many are just basic CC only units. Things like CV is a factory option. Also many either don't have the aux power option installed for AC power, or they have very low AC output, like 3KW. Enough to run grinders or drills, but not enough to run machines. The options you are looking for, CC/CV capable as well as decent aux power, will significantly reduce the number of used units that will work for you. Don't expect to be able to add those after you buy..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan

Reply:My Vantage 300 has been good to me. I chose it for the 1800 rpm Kubota and a local dealer. Similar spec to the pro 300 . Replaced the little inline fuel filter with a Racor filter and had to replace one of the output meters. I run a suitcase, spool gun, tig, stick. air arc and use it for ac power 120/240V.
Reply:Looks to me like there all about the same specs I guess I will just have to look for that good deal. Thanks |
