has anyone used the boss bender to bend cap rail? and did it do a good job.thanksBTS Welding
Reply:I dont have a boss bender, but on their website, they dont show any dies at all for bending flat, or cap rail, the hard way. I am assuming you want to bend it the hard way- and to do a decent job of that, you need dies that actually fit the cap rail. There are about 3 sizes of cap rail commonly available- and your die would have to fit the one you have. Hossfeld makes cap rail dies, and they work real well, but each size of dies costs about as much as a boss bender. They are cast iron dies, so the pattern was made to match the profile of the cap rail. You can actually bend it pretty well with the flat bar edge bending die setup on a hossfeld, rather than buying the custom dies. I have bent all kinds of flat and odd shaped bar this way, sometimes hot, sometimes cold.I have bent it pretty well with my powered angle rolls, but they cost a whole lot more than a new hossfeld and cap rail dies. |
