Hey guys just wanting some advise here. I am going to get a plasma cutter for sure, but just not sure what I need to get. I will be using it mostly for hobby welding stuff and for some vehicle restoration that I dabble with. I don't think that I need anything really heavy duty, and will probably not be cutting anything bigger than 1/4". I have the o/a torch if I really need to cut something bigger. The two that I have been looking at are the Thermal Dynamic drag-gun and the Miller Spectrum 125. What I am wondering is should I get something a little bigger in the event that I may need it down the road sometime. I would hate to have to buy something later because I didn't get the right unit now. Thanx.
Reply:I'd definitely go a little on the large side. Nothing worse than buying a tool and a year down the road finding that it doesn't do all you want it to.I recently picked up a Hypertherm 1100 (new model is the 1250) that I am very pleased with. Also, check into the costs of consumables - one thing that led me to the Hypertherm.
Reply:I agree on this issue as I am looking to replace a smaller unit myself. I should have gone bigger from jump street instead of settling for what I needed at the time. You might also want to check out HTP plasma cutters which are equal to the bigger manufactures at more reasonable prices. Right now I have my eye on their MicroCut 400. Reply:I recently bought a cutmaster 50. I was going to buy the 38 model which has a 3/8" capacity(steel) but opted for the 1/2" capacity instead. It's a Thermal Dynamics brand. I already was comfortable with this brand and know they've been around a while. I believe ther located in N.H. Bottom line is go heavier if you can. This model went for $1750.00. |
