Denyo 280 welder

I have a SA-200 Lincoln and a 300 amp Lincoln shop welder , both weld good. I bought a used Diesel Denyo 280 welder because I wonted a Diesel machine and a generator, I smokes and that is fixable but the ark is not stable and is no where as smooth as the SA-200. It sticks and frys and generally just makes me wont to find a new home for it. Has any one welded with one of these machines. It is suppose to be open Delta wound.   If it is suppose to be smooth then I can have the thing repaired and I will rebuild the engine. If not I will sell it and use the money to buy a good diesel generator. thanks for any help JimK
