I've made videos of my welds for my Full Size Jeep club in the past, but I'm in a whole new environment (apartment with a garage as opposed to my old shop). I decided to come up with a better way of doing things, leading to this, The "Weld-O-Vision"!Should get some vids up in the Maxus/Campbell Hausfeld thread soon!
Reply:Looks good, how far is the flip from the helmet? And any puddle shots?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:Thanks! I cut the camera arm as a stop for the hood to put the flip 1/4" inch from the lens. I didn't want it to touch, but I figure the closer it is to the lens the less chance of reflective light causing problems. Also, the top is my dogs old food bowl, so it can hold my cell phone, car keys, etc. After I take the wife to Paul Mitchell silky smooth school tomorrow afternoon I'll be down in the garage to try it out!

Reply:Alright, this is my first attempt at posting a vid on this forum, lets see if it works! Don't expect anything spectacular, I was just playing with the Weld-O-Vision for an initial impression. I'll play around with the shade of the hood later, as well as put some tape over the red light.Hey Gamble! The attachment is rediculously simple, you can see it in the last pic in my initial post. The headgear just goes down over the dog dish and then tightens up. This way I can snag the helmet if I ever need a back up.Wintermute, mine's a 79 J-10, you get on IFSJA or M715zone much?Last edited by REDONE; 01-23-2013 at 12:28 AM.

Reply:Hey, that's not half bad!! I like your idea Two things I've learned...1) Use a LIGHT shade. You see a lot more, and since you're using a camera and don't have to worry about eye strain, why not? Also, the more the camera sees, the more it can focus...2) Zoom in... Way in. I know flip's dont have a lot of zoom, but this will help it not focus on specks on the helmet's lens, or smoke, etc..Here's a video on my welding shots...Cool setup [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZkLTcjsDC0[/ame][Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749I really wanna make some videos, prolly won't be a lot of actual welding, but at the same time there's something I've been working on that will need to show the welding to fully demonstrate the concept.I'm gonna research it when I get around to it. Won't be anything near the quality of Lanse's vids, but I want to play around with it.

Reply:Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions guys! I'll play around more this weekend when I have more time. I don't recommend anybody record a welding arc close up without a shade! I ruined a Sony Handycam AND a 1st gen GoPro that way. They both had permanent white lines running horizontally through the middle of the image after two or three sessions, that's why I use a cheapo flipHD now. This weekend I'll try adjusting the shade as well as using auxiliary lighting to see if I can improve the image.
