Come this fall I’m hoping to be accepted into a pre-apprenticeship welding program in Alberta, the application process requires “interviews” of sorts from certified journeymen in the field. Anybody out there willing to give me some feedback and answer a few questions? (They’re nothing scary I promise..)Disclaimer: Your name and employer (address and phone number) is required, a little security on the institutions part to guarantee I’m not just making up the results. But we could sort that out through PM or email. Albertans would be preferable, other women would be awesome. But I’d love to hear from any and all of you!I'd like to shape it more as a conversation, tell me about your job! What you love, day in the life etc.. but here are a couple of the topics I'm looking to cover..- physical expectations- opportunities and places of work- how does the demand vs reward weigh out for you?and then some of the bigger ones..- Women in the workplace.. and how you feel about that. Love it, tell me why. Hate it? Let me know.. I'd love to try and prove those ideas wrong some day

Reply:I'm an iron worker welder in Alberta myself. If you have to do an interview to start your apprenticeship, there are a few things you should focus on. First is safety. When your new to the industrial world, it's your inexperience that can get you hurt or injured. Make sure you stress that it's always safety first with everything you do and if your not sure about something, ask. There is never a dumb question when it comes to safety. Next is work demeanour. When your Forman asks you to do a job, do it. You want to have your Forman feeling they can trust you. Next is keeping your mouth shut. Complainers, loud mouths and trouble makers are always the first ones to be laid off or fired.  No exceptions.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
