This is the roll off truck that pulled onto a job site I was on. I do know the owner of the roll off company. I bet I would be a shoe in for his future welding work, if I gave him a free sample repair!!! I'm NOT bragging, but I KNOW I can do better than that!!!I have five posts, so please wait until I post "Have at it guys!", thanks!Drivers side front of fender. DOH! pic 3, welded to frame rail!"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:Who would think that is acceptable??...The sad part is whoever did that probably thought they did a good job...Well at least someone is gonna have fun with an arcair.
Reply:Must have been the owner who did that welding.  Otherwise it is hard to imagine anyone accepting the welding or some of the material used.  If my dog had a thumb she could do better.

Reply:does Illinois have an inspection for trucks?? Judging by the pics I guess they don't....somebody needs to confiscate the welder from whoever did those excellent repairs!!  I guess you could call it a "RAT ROD" now.....Lincoln pro mig 180Lincoln Square Wave Tig 300/wp 20/home built water cooler Victor, Purox, Harris, O/A welding/cutting setupsVintage Craftsman drill pressVintage Craftsman/Atlas 12"x 36'' lathe7''x 12'' w/c band saw Everlast 140 st

Reply:Wow.  That is amazing, and not in a good way.Several years ago, we did a lot of out of state work for a company, where we had to haul a backhoe behind the dumptruck, and hauled a good sized bobcat in the dump bed.  We did quite a bit in Indiana, and everytime I had to go up there (probably made about 6 round trips over 2 yrs or so), I'd try to time it where I would go thru Illinois in the middle of the night, because of the horror stories I had heard about the DOT up there.  We were inspected in other states, with never a problem.  But I always had a feeling that Illinois would be different from what I was told by several people, one of which lived up there for a few years.  He said the State Patrol was about like the Gestapo.  Luckily, I never got to visit with said officers.  If I could find some more trucks to run with, that 150 miles of I-70 didn't take too long at all...

Reply:wow, I don't even think my rookie a$$ could screw that up.. lol!www.thefusionsolution.com
Reply:The company must stay local, I can't believe that truck has never been inspected!  I'm from Mississippi and because of the logging/timber industry the D.O.T. is strict, and they will pull over all types of trucks for inspection.I got a feeling in that truck ever gets pulled over it will be deemed inoperable.
Reply:It was probably a mechanic that worked for the owner and the owner said just patch it, just patch it, just patch it. I have seen worse and probably drove worse, but now that I'm not green I never will again. One thing I learned working for that shady out fit was the is never enough money to fix it right the first time, but more than enough to do it right the second time. So when I bought my own tractor trailer I get it fixed all right the first time.We are on our way to being farmers! Reply:This truck's owner seriously needs to weigh the cost benefit of paying for a good welding job versus the liability lawsuit he will face when that truck comes apart on the road and damages God knows what. Possibly even negligence in the death of someone. Reply:Welds look like they were done with a truck battery, booster cables and coat hanger wire.  Only scenario where these would be acceptable would be as an emergency repair to limp out from the back country (NOT on public roads) by doing the fix with...a truck battery, booster cables and coat hanger wire."These instructions are at our present level ofknowledge. Legal requirements do not exist.Technical issues subject to change."_________________________________________Lincoln MIG PAK 180Lincoln AC-225

Reply:If the owner cared  or wasnt a cheap A$$ that truck wouldnt look like it so  dont get your hopes  up on a new client.   Theres a dump truck company near here thats run by money grubbers.    THey buy trailers that should have been scrapped 20 years ago.    They  use the DOT rules that road building material haulers cant be pulled over  unless theres a moving violation and  then  only the driver is fined not the owner.     I work with an ex DOT worker.      THe owners of the trucks are also kin to him.       They have a poor safety record several drivers have been in accidents  that  involved fatalities.     They are so cheap they run burned motor oil in the truck wet kits.  Their trucks are night mares, I have seen them at local shops and  know the owners well.  THeir truck shop is just a patch job, but they have a ton of money invested in  paint and bodyshop  sections.     I saw a trailer at a friends  welding shop he was doing a repair on  they had a trailer with a NuWay suspension the end of the   pivot was broken off and had been off for a looooong time.  THe only thing holding the bogey in place was the S cams on the brakes had cammed over and  hung it in place.   The Head DOT officer  is an ex SOB highway patrol that Is the trucking companies safety training man.     Also they  make a big donation to the  DOT every year along with a few  paid  hunting leases for them.        Our trucks are in top condition with no expense spared on their maintenance and upkeep and we have to tip toe around them.
