would this be repairable ( im sure it could be by you awesome welders on here) or would you even attempt it? Looks to be .024 thick, washer drum unit. Was told it was over loaded probably cuasing it to hang up somewhere then ripping. This guy sees the blue flashes coming from the garage & seems to think I'm a experienced welder, all though I'm trying to be come fluent w/some processes I just don't think I'm ready for this thin gauge stuff quite yet. It's only $100+ for the new drum & I think if it was my situation I would buy new. My biggest concern is rust if it could be repaired in the future, do you think this inner core is coated w/something to stand up against abrasive dirt & grime? Reply:I could repair that, but I wouldn't since the work to smooth everything out back to original and made it all perfectly round and smooth would cost more than $100.--Wintermute"No man's knowledge here can go beyond his experience." - John Lockewww.improvised-engineering.comManufacturer Agnostic:Blood----------Sweat---------Tears----|------------------|----------------|----Lincoln Red, Miller Blue, Esab Yellow
Reply:You Could depending on the price of a replacement drum:Hammer to shape, stitch it up with stainless, and smooth it out with a flap disk.  You only need it smooth enough to not snag any clothing placed in the drum.or if your time has any value, buy a new or good used drum.Last edited by nadogail; 01-27-2013 at 08:12 PM.I offer three choices: Good, Fast, & Cheap. Reply:yeah I would beat it to shape then weld it back up. since it is so thin using a copper backing would help from blowing through it.

Reply:Go to a local used appliance place for a used one.  My wife needed a refrigerator to turn into a hot box for her honey storage.  We wanted one that didn't work and paid $25.
Reply:I tried on a drum that looks exactly the same. I think it was a Samsung or LG, also for a buddy. The metal is funny, it looks like 304, but it ain't, it's very magnetic. I had issues with burn through and wound up lap welding a 18ga  304 patch in. It didn't work, as it caused it to clunk like a steel drum every time the belt ran over the patch.EDIT>>> if you take out the screws to remove a baffle, there's some really fun little fuzz balls inside!Last edited by REDONE; 01-28-2013 at 01:43 AM.
Reply:$hit, I'd try it for fun and a case of beer. It's gonna be alot of work.  Youre gonna need to set up a purge for behind or get some solar b flux or backing that matches that contour (good luck). With pulse and some 309 filler I bet youd do ok, just no promises to the guy.TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum
Reply:welding it up would be the easy part. getting it to spin properly afterwards may present a problem. because it's bent it may not be symmetrical after the repair and would/might be out of balance during high speed spin cycle.i.u.o.e. # 15queens, ny and sunny fla
Reply:Appreciate the replys, you guys really help alot out on here so thanks! the guy wants to patch it w/ new metal & feels if we do the same on the opposite side it will balance it durning the rotation cycle... I do have cooper backing to put up against it but no pulse feature at this time. I do have a foot pedal so I'll attempt it & see what happens. Reply:think about checking the bearing that caused it to get wonky  enough  to get bent.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. Reply:IMOIf it is one of those new low water, high speed machines, I'd just spend the $100 to replace it.Then weld that up to prove I could do it.

Reply:Get the replacement and save the headache for another time when it's REALLY not worth it.........zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
