Hello, noob to welding and have a question on a replacement mig gun for my Miller Vintage 200amp . Would it matter any if I put lets say a 250 or 300 amp mig gun on this machine even though the machine is rated at 200amps? Prob a silly question but i just had to ask..Thanks everyone
Reply:Since a MM Vintage will output 250 amps, a 250+ amp gun is what you want. The M-25 is a 250 amp gun. I have a 300 amp Q gun on mine, works great. I had a 400 amp Q gun on it for a while but sold it to a friend who was doing a bunch of spray arc. Look on ebay for Bernard Q guns http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Bernard-...item19d46ebba4. They can be had for under a hundred bucks.
Reply:I did exactly that. I upsized my gun on my LN25. The drawback is the weight. The larger guns are noticeably heavier. I was used to it since it was the one I always used. But when I would use someone else's gun, I always noticed how light and easy to use theirs was. I don't regret it. But it is something to consider ahead of time.Lincoln Power Mig 210MP MIGLincoln Power Mig 350MP - MIG and Push-PullLincoln TIG 300-300Lincoln Hobby-Weld 110v Thanks JLAMESCK TIG TORCH, gas diffuser, pyrex cupThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101My brain
Reply:Yep......... Weight is the concern. It's amazing how adding a few ounces to a gun will ultimately be noticed when you drop back to a lower rated / lighter gun.Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.

Reply:I run 035 and 045 solid wires. I have some .023 but find its pretty slow going unless I am doing 18ga up. 16gauge and thicker I found I prefer .035. Never bothered with .030. That's sort of a filler wire for 110vac or small 220vac. I could see using it on say an ESAB 160 caddy mig or a 140 hobart etc. but a 200or larger machine will do fine with 035Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.
