Reply:A bit much for an AC welder, though location is everything. However, I think it is perhaps an extremely early example of the kind. Reply:If it works and does what you wanted the price isn't really a factor after a while. But you will see AC/DC versions for $300-500 as you look around more - so don't let it get you down.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I bought a circa 1952 Lincoln AC-180C welder for $50. just because it was cool and I didn't want to see it go for scrap. Look up the serial number/code number on that old welder and see when it was made."USMCPOP" First-born son: KIA Iraq 1/26/05Syncrowave 250 w/ Coolmate 3Dialarc 250, Idealarc 250SP-175 +Firepower TIG 160S (gave the TA 161 STL to the son)Lincwelder AC180C (1952)Victor & Smith O/A torchesMiller spot welder

Reply:Nice welder. My grandfather taught me on a 180 AC Lincoln back In the early 60s and it was a great machine. I think you will find the machine your purchased to be constructed with pride and quality components.

Reply:I paid $100 each for five of the AC/DC version of this welder at an auction in Cincinnati last year. Several of them came with 25-50' of 1/0 leads as well. However, my machines we more beat up, had been brush painted with white paint, and a couple had some knobs missing. Yours is prettier. I won't say you overpaid, but your price makes me happy with mine. The restored machine is a beauty! I was just going to do a quick repaint, but that inspires me to try a little harder with mine!
Reply:400 isn't bad for the fact its bulletproof okay a lot more than bullet proof.Lincoln pro core 125 14''chop saw7 inch grinder,2-4.5 inch grinders, electric die grinder.Half inch drillAnd alot of hand tools
Reply:Originally Posted by woodtick007I would say you paid 2wice as much as you should have. Did you not research before going there? Were you on booze or pot at the time of purchase? Well its yours now....lets just hope you don't have to put any money into it.Slightly overpaid, however, you will make it back quickly. I have thousands in welders, and each one paid for itself very quickly. If you don't know how to use it, take a class, or find someone who will teach you. It will add to your enjoyment to do it successfully and easily. I have wasted more money on new tools that dont work as advertised so far this year than you overpaid, so you didnt get bit too bad. Enjoy your new welder.
Reply:BTW, pull the cover and blow it out, then sand and paint the cover, it will immensly improve your attitude toward the welder. You can also do a search for how to add a rectifier to your machine to make it DC as well.
Reply:Its ok will pass down to your grandkids ,blow it out and paint it up weld with 1/4 rods all day long. You can buy AC carbons and gouge too. Add a dc convertor and Hi Freq box and tig away. |
