I am going to get a bandsaw for the house and was looking at the Grizzly 4x6 and the JET 5x6. The cheapest I have found the JET (locally) is 299$ I think I saw the Grizzly (shipped) for like 290$. So I guess which one would be better? Unless I can find the JET cheaper somewhere else it will run about 325$ with tax. What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks in advance
Reply:I have a Grizzly 8144 vertical bandsaw. I also have several other Grizzly machine tools, all of which are solid. I don't have any experience with Jet tools, though I have heard good things about them as well. Quality wise, I would say they are similar.Syncrowave 250 DX (Watercooled)Millermatic 251Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 101H
Reply:I have the jet 5 X 6 horizontal bandsaw I believe. I have to say it works very well for the money. It cuts pretty slow but for what it is that is to be expected. I got some lennox blades for it that work very well, blade it came with was junk after about 10 cuts. Blades were reasonably priced at like 18$ each. One thing i have to say is the clamp doesnt work very well, its slow to move open and closed and it does nothing to hold round stock. I have seen the grizzly one at trade shows and i agree they are very similar. I also paid 299 for mine about 6 months back. I still prefer the carbide chop saw for straight cuts though, I love that thing.
Reply:thanks for the replies...someone else had suggested the Homier bandsaw (the one that 199$) I would also like to get a chop saw. Which is a good one of those?thanks again
Reply:I am partial to milwaukee, they have always gotten the job done for me and never have let me down to date. I own the porter cable 1410 14" cold carbide saw. Just happened upon a smokin deal on it on amazon.com around christmas. Think i paid like 330.00 with shipping and blade. Think its over 500 for that saw. Works excellent and the blades last very well. Dealer told me around 400 cuts with 1 blade and i have exceeded that so far. I wax the blade like a nut tho . |
