I've got myself a drill press a couple of weeks ago. The first time I went to use it. I found that if I push a little hard on the handle. The hole spindle binds when I'm drilling into anything. The bit, the chuck and the driving sleeve slips in the spindle pulley. I'm wondering if there's a setting I need to tight? I did make sure the chuck and the belt are tight. I can stop the chuck with my hand.Marc

Reply:Could there be some lubricant on there left from the factory? Try taking it apart and washing it with a degreaser and re-assemble. Good luck!

Reply:Yours doesn't say but it looks like the drive sleeve must be tapered on the outside (pulley surface) and there is no reference to a key or key slot visible in the drawing. Crank that nut (#69) down hard and see if it makes a friction difference. If it does pull it apart and clean all oil off and put it back on tight.
Reply:I had the same trouble with a press with the same setup I believe that part #65 is slipping in the pulley part #70. I believe this is a press fit. I fixed mine by pressing out # 65 and center punching the inside of the pulley until you can get a press fit that will not slip. You might have to get some new parts. |
