Reply:I picked up an older Lincoln 180amp buzbox, right now I am working on getting used to a wip with the rod and some drag. I am just working on mower decks. I have a Miller 211 and a Hobart 140, that I am good with . I am just trying to learn the stick side.I have some 6013 5/64 and some 6013 3/32, and just a few 7018 3/32. The 7018 at around 100amp burn good , but am am better with the 6013 rods, I am burning the 6013 at about 65amps and all of the rods are Lincoln rods.
Reply:6013 are a dream to weld with compared to 6010 or 6011.  Great for flat positions for the noviceMiller Dynasty 200DXMiller Spectrum 250DMiller Millermatic 200Bunch of old blue dinosaurs....
Reply:6013s work best at the high end of the current range- I like about 85A for 3/32", 130A for 1/8". 7014s are also good for beginners, probably the easiest rod to start without sticking. If it's an AC-only buzz box, make sure you are using 7018AC rods. You will find them much easier to start and keep lit than regular 7018s.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:If its not 7018ac rod then I would stick with the 60xx.Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:All of the rods are AC, I am just going to keep burning, I will get it in time.
Reply:As already mentioned, 6013 is a nice running rod for AC machines and can be used to make solid welds and good looking welds. Also as mentioned it was engineered to provide a high travel speed on sheet metal. If you find yourself looking for better penetration, 6011 is a close cousin of 6010. 6011 is engineered to run well on AC, and will certianly provide strong penetration similar to 6010.From a learning standpoint, 6011 is also a lot more sensitive to your arc length. On one hand, you can use the 6011 to improve your arc handling once you get comfortable with 6013. Some would argue that 6013 might teach you some bad habits that would be harder to unlearn when changing over to something like 6011.Just as a little more side info, electrodes can be grouped into three general categories. Fast-freeze, fast-fill and fill-freeze. 6011 and 6013 get you exposure to the two more commonly used groups.Fast Freeze - Weld puddle sets fast, and typically have a low deposition rate of weld metal. Good for out of position. Strong arc force and penetration. This group includes xx10 and xx11 type rods.Fill Freeze - Weld puddle stays fluid longer than with Fast Freeze, but still sets fast enough for out of position welding. Deposition rate of weld metal is higher. Milder arc force and penetration than Fast Freeze type rods. This group includes xx12, xx13 and xx14 rods.Fast Fill - Puddle stays fluid longer, thus can flow if not welding in the flat position. Not the ideal choice for out of position work due to this.
