Reply:I too would recommend a horizontal bandsaw. I used a chop saw for years-got tired of the noise and flying dust and filth in my face. The chop saw is faster than a bandsaw for small quantity, however for large volume bulk cutting and accuracy the bandsaw wins easily. Also, you do not have to stand over the bandsaw while it cuts. Under $500 will get you a pretty good bandsaw. Space is an issue with the bandsaw, if you cut long stock. Most small bandsaws require that the stock swing or the bandsaw turn in order to make angle cuts. I am sure you had this issue with the chop saw, though the band saw is much larger.
Reply:get a metal bladed chop saw you can saw steel as well as lumber and have very little burr to remove on steel its the best investment i ever made. the blades are about 125.00 per blade but they will cut as much as 20 or 30 abrasive blades
Reply:Makita makes a good metal blade chop saw , I priced it at $ 450.
Reply:I have a DeWalt Multi-Cutter and love it. Cuts fast and accurately. Blades are expensive, but can be resharpened. Not all can, but the DeWalts can be. I have had very little trouble keeping things square. When it goofs up, I usually did something wrong..not the saw. |
