Goodmorning, everyone So, I decided to run another electrode comparison just for the fun of it, and my results... Surprised even me!! Haha, but then again, I don't run a lot of 6013...Anyway, what I did, was I got a box of Lincoln Fleetweld 37 and some Hobart 6013 and started welding... I compared them in terms of how much they cost (per pound), how well they ran, how easily the slag came off and how hard it was to clean a weld... And then, of course, I put them through a break test:It was a really enjoyable test... And I've got a few more planned for the near future, as well...Well, I hope y'all like the video... Just wanted to share it... Have a great week, everybody [Account Abandoned 8/8/16 Please Do Not Attempt Contact Or Expect A Reply]. See you on YouTube! -ChuckE2009
Reply:nice vid. i don't know if it's the rod or what but 6013 should not splatter. if the heat is right and rod angle is right it should run it self. just saying. thanks rodweld
Reply:Cool vid. Well done!
Reply:Great Vid! Subscribed. The box of hobart 6013 1/8 (# 770470) i have the slag is a breeze to clean, most is loose and some curls on its own. amperage unknown as the dial isn't accurateAnd i agree sparklers compared to 7018
Reply:slag is usually never an issue using 6013 for me. the first half usually falls off before i finish. or it curls up. i prefer 6013 on 3/16 and thinner. if stick welding is the case. but most of all, 6013 is my tack rod.Miller ab/p 330Hobart champ 16Miller 140Lincoln Power Mig 255Lincoln SA-250

Reply:Something is off. You are throwing some serious BBs. You should have NO BBs or very few. And I am also curious, what is the temp? I see you blowing vapor, so it looks cold, are you preheating your steel before you weld it?Nice fume extractor! when did you pick that up? I didn't know TSC carried those
Reply:I think you would do better to have a pendulum that is MUCH more consistent in hitting force. It would be an easy fab. Also, you could set up the weld parameters such as 1/4 inch fillet, or a 60 degree v butt weld. You could easily set this up so your hitting force is no longer a fluctuating variable.

Reply:Lanse...another good video!Just curious as to why you ran the 6013 in DCEN mode rather than DCEP?You mentioned in the video that lots of folks run it DCEN, but most I have talked to run it DCEP.
Reply:My welding instructor said they run well on DCEN........ Reply:I've never tried DCEN on the 6013, or any other rod for that matter that is listed as both a DCEN and DCEP type. I think I have a box of Hobart's laying around...might just try it
Reply:In my experience, I typically run it on straight polarity, but if I forget and leave it on reversed then it works just as well. There is an interesting effect that happens when you change the polarity. Take a small carbon and stick it in your stinger like a poor man's tig and run it on both. what you will find out is the straight polarity will yield a long tapered carbon. the reversed will blunt the end and scallop the end. It is pretty neat to see. You can really pinpoint the arc off the carbon when you are running straight.
