Hello fellas, maybe this is not necessary but let me tell u little a bout this trailer,I buy these 16 ft boat trailer to convert into flat bed utility trailer,  well everything sound great don't u!  No now I don't know what to do! The problem is the papers(title) of the trailer that guy who I purchase the damn trailer say he was the original owner so he selling the trailer just with a bill of sale, well I just buy the trailer with the bill of sale I been to the DMV Ca to stared the transfer on my name but I can't do it because the guy on the bill of sale is not the damn owned to make this think worse he move out of town... My bad!! Now I'm not going to lose my money so this is my plan. 1; cut off the tong and discharge. why? Because VIN number are stamper on it.2; keep the frame with axle I wand the frame 10-12 ft  not sure yet, 3; I was thinking to heat up and straightening the end. 4; build new tong. Oh, register home made trailer! What u guys think maybe I'm wrong?  Here are few pics of the trailer Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212

Reply:Ok dick here I stand corrected. I apologize
Reply:Well I know is not stolen because DMV don't have any report, so now after me few calls i get contact with the guy who sold me the trailer he say he had the trailer with boat for while. I can sold the trailer or I can apply for a Lien holder Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212
Reply:Or I just keep the axle and build the frame from 4" x 2" C-channel or square tubing and I can use the rest of the metal for another projects. I made few trailer before for friend of my but I never register on my name I just give a bill of saleSent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212
Reply:If you're not a proficient welder that knows what he's doing your a$$ is hanging out a mile w/ your name on the bill of sale if you built the tlr.                                    JMHO,                                              MikeOl' Stonebreaker  "Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes"Hobart G-213 portableMiller 175 migMiller thunderbolt ac/dc stick Victor O/A setupMakita chop saw

Reply:I heard of guys welding over the STAMPED numbers and grind smooth.   Then register the BOAT TRAILER as ''homemade''.
Reply:These this my first time buying something without title but is time to learn again of my mistakes. DMV alway questioned ur build (home made) Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212
Reply:In PA DOT wants all the receipts for parts on a home made trailer, in part to prove you paid sales tax on them. If the parts are salvaged from another trailer, or are used, they want the VIN from the donor vehicle as well as the reciept. A big part of this is to deal with guys who steal and the "rebuild" the trailers to sell..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Reply:How u can u  prove it if the metal come from another trailer u can used C-channel or square tubing from building take down or something like that. The only way u need to prove it is if u say yes all the materials are from scrap trailer. I buy only steel, where they come from I don't know and I don't care. Nice and clean steel no numbers is just metal. Don't u !!! Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212

Reply:Once again, why, why, why, small utility trailers are CHEAP, unless you have a special need that a commercially made trailer won't work, just freeking buy one, they even come with a title...I'm all for a guy building these type of things, do it myself quite a bit, but if you don't have an understanding of strengths of materials and have the skills to properly assemble your just making a pile of junk.

Reply:Last night (Late night) the guy who I buy these trailer send me text message and he say he are able to contact with the legal owner of this trailer so and few days I be to get a bill of sell, The DMV staff say Since trailers has PTI lot of people buy and sold with bill of sale. reason why people don't transfer on this name( to avoid transfers fees) Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212

Reply:Originally Posted by kolotIf you know anything about any DMV you will know removing/ altering a VIN is a crime. Understand it is done all the time, but just so everyone knows, it's not legitamite or legal.  As far as $600 trailers the previous post was right, why take the time to poorly design, poorly weld some piece of junk together when you can just buy a poorly designed, poorly welded piece of junk from an assembly line or big box store that has plenty of junk to choose from. LOL, seriously , have you ever looked at a $600 trailer, one trip up the ramp with the lawn mower and the expanded metal tears off and the gate bows, Oh you wanted tie downs. What's wrong with 1 1/2 x 1/8  angle.

Reply:Have we seen J-Man's welding?  It looks to me like he is taking the necessary steps to get a bill of sale from the original owner, so he can get a title.  I've seen those box store trailers, the welds are crap and they bend and flex with me on them.  JUNK.  It also sounds like J-Man has had proper training to make the necessary repairs and welds.  BTW, the "why build something you can buy" comment really doesn't hold any ground on a WELDING forum.  Most of the projects I've seen on this forum are of something you can buy.  Maybe try constructive criticism fellas.  There's a difference between being correct and being right.   If I have to explain what that means, google it.

Reply:There's always a time to buy and a time to fabricate.Sometimes it is cheaper to go look for something already built as it can be cheaper than building from scratch.Just because we can weld/ fabricate doesn't mean we have to build everythingThe trailers listed are in between in the cost/value price point. The tandom  axle trailer might be a good price.Depends on the cost of materials to build a trailer similar.but it is not a good price if one doesn't need a tandom trailerAnyhow- the boat trailer will need some work since the axle is too far back for a utility traler and it will also need top rails to add strength to it. Adding those modifications is what could possibly make the Cheap trailer not so cheap and we are back to buyingEd Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Worrying is a waste of my time.  Its hard to imagine that there are drivers out there werrying about any trailers going down the road  I would just pass if there was an issue. If JMAN wants to build a trailer, maybee its because he doesnt want to buy one and is just looking for something to do. It seems he came here looking for good advice and found none but, there will always be the Naysayers. The trailer could be salvaged for scrap then why cant it be used for other stuf
Reply:Thanks for you comments fellas! Im really appreciate your point. Trailer axle are attach it to the frame with 4 bolts each side Can be unbolt and move to specific length need. Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212
Reply:I understand how members can be uncomfortable with a new welder making a trailer for obvious reasons, however just because someone hasn't been on WeldingWeb for many years doesn't mean their new to welding. To often it is assumed a new member is automatically a new welder. I don't know JMAN or his welding competence and intend to give him the chance.I also find it curious when another trailer build (http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=190621 although it was a new not converted trailer) recieved compliments and this thread is only getting negative responses. My Photos on Flickr
Reply:I totally understand and Just looking for good advice how I can build my flat bed trailer, like ideas for simple or better design made strong frame. I saw hundreds of trailers on the road and don't know who build it, how build it, oh how weak are the welds, I know I can buy a single axle with weak frame for under $1000 (angle frame) why build if can buy! Or why buy if I can build! Somebody where say " not  because u know how to weld u can build" something like that) and I think u can't build if u can weld.(unless u hire a welder). :-)Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkMillermatic 212
Reply:You have to understand what the original post sounded like to anyone who is a professional.  You start off planning to remove a vin number from a trailer and cut the frame to make it what you want.   That is why you are getting critical answers.  Maybe if you came off sounding competent you would have gotten better answers...
