This is a question out of curiosity only. I have no intention of every looking at a welder this large, but you see the Dynasty 700 is rated for aluminum up to 1" and puts out 500A @ 100% DC, and up to 700A.Ok. That's impressive. BUT. Are they talking about penetrating 1" of aluminum!? And, 500A...600A...700A... what the heck torch and electrode does that use!?I am more curious as to how they can even get 700A out of a handheld torch, through an electrode, and into/through(?!) 1" of aluminum???Miller Diversion 180Hobart Handler 140 (Soon to be replaced with Miller 211?)Miller Spectrum 625 Extreme

Reply:WP-12 torch is good for 500a continuous, 3/16 electrodes would handle the heat. I think its the weldor that would have trouble hanging around an arc like that for too long. you'd need some thick gear on to weld with that kind of amperage for long periods of time. I could see automated work being a lot more useful with a machine that big, but then again I never need more than 250a
Reply:No it will not penetrate 1" alum. So no you cannot seam weld a butt joint or T fillet and get full pen without beveling. It will weld on any alum of infinite thickness in AC however. All you really need to do is melt the surface faster than the heat can dissipate away. Then you add the rod and bingo. It most cases for reference, a Dynasty700 can penetrate through 1/2" inch alum, a 350 can penetrate through 1/4" alum, and a 200 can penetrate through 1/8" alum. All on 3 phase power input of course. Addition of helium helps as well.Weld like a "WELDOR", not a wel-"DERR" MillerDynasty700DX,Dynasty350DX4ea,Dynasty200DX,Li ncolnSW200-2ea.,MillerMatic350P,MillerMatic200w/spoolgun,MKCobraMig260,Lincoln SP-170T,PlasmaCam/Hypertherm1250,HFProTig2ea,MigMax1ea.
Reply:the 700 is really intended to automated processes i believe. I have a 200dx and it is fantastic. i would really love to get my hands on a 350, that would be the last tig i ever buy i think. |
