welding splatter and boss on my back

I am a production welder at a factory and I my boss was complaining about the splatter on parts that I welded.  The part is a 1/8 flat plate with a piece of 5/8 threaded rod welded on end to the plate. The splatter is maybe six little balls on each part.  I told him that there is nothing i can do about it, splatter is part of welding. I tried changing my wire stick out both in and out. I told him that its the setup we have at work with the welders.  We run CO2 gas, cheap wire and some cheap china made threaded rod that is covered in oil.  Keep in mind that it is a production job so the weld fast as can be and have our welders cranked up as hot as we can run them.  On some of the parts that we rotate on a rotisserie we are welding so fast that we are limited by the wire feed machines and how fast they feed the wire.  So my question is there anything I can try to do to get him off my back about it?

Reply:Keep a large flat chisel handy and knock 3-4 of the off when you are done welding it. Otherwise spend more time tuning your setup to reduce spatter. You can also use an anti spatter spray on the part first.

Reply:The bosses job is to complain.If your doing everything else to perfection and 6 splatter spots is the only complaint things are good.You could try slowing down your production and eliminate all 6 spots and see what he says.If he says your too slow then speed up and leave 3 splatter balls.Get back to us and let us know how it works out..Lincoln SA200's... at least 15 - 20. They come and go. Growing partial to the "Short Hoods" in my old age. Last count on Short Hoods was 13 in possession.
Reply:use anti-spatter on the part.clean the oil off the rod with acetone or alcohol or somethingturn your voltage up or wire speed down, or maybe bothkeep a chisel or file or some other device handy to scrape the spatter off when you're done. spatter IS a weld defect, but very difficult to tune out especially with cheap materials and tools. Same story where i work, except the welders all know to clean it off when they're done.

Reply:we use 75/25 for hardwire and fluxcore with really nice results. we'll use 90/10 for spray transfer on hardwire and as long as the angle is right it's completely spatter free.

Reply:zapster is right say "show me how" when he takes the gun walk away to the john or somthing.Miller thunderbolt 250Decastar 135ERecovering tool-o-holic ESAB OAI have been interested or involved in Electrical, Fire Alarm, Auto, Marine, Welding, Electronics ETC to name a just a few. So YES you can own too many tools.
Reply:Double check your voltage setting, give the base plate a shot of anti-splatter & weld away.
