Not the deli kind...Looking at a Makita 12" Dry Cut Saw.15 amp motor60 tooth carbide tip bladeOn for $529CAD.What do you guys think? I'll have to run a dedicated circut to it, but there are only about 3 feet between the panel and the shop, so that isn't a problem.  Anyone else have one?  Likes? Dislikes?Owner of Welding Wiki,The free wiki based resource for weldor's around the world.http://www.weldingwiki.comWe have cookies!

Reply:I got it today.  I'm in love.Owner of Welding Wiki,The free wiki based resource for weldor's around the world.http://www.weldingwiki.comWe have cookies!
Reply:Just curious how well do you think the blade will last?  I was reading a review on another site, Dewalt was claiming up to 1200 cuts before their blade needs sharpening.  Everyone that used it said 300-400 cuts was closer, some being much lower, but admitted that they pushed too hard and may have damaged the blade.
Reply:I got the exact you've got and I'm happy. Had a slight problem with a little bit of oil leaking from the casing.Apparently the grease packed in the gearbox caused the seepage when it got hot. They repacked it with better grease and put in new oil at no charge.Enjoy.
Reply:SteelMax has a good line of metal working tools.I have had no complaints!
Reply:Milwaukee 14" for me.
Reply:Don (dda) and I have the DeWalt DW872.  I have cut some large stuff where the 14" blade was an advantage, but it's rare.  I've heard the Makita's 12" blade is a little more forgiving when it comes to flexing, but I've not noticed a big flexing problem with the stuff I do.I've dulled mine by cutting steel of unknown origin.  Turned out to be hard stuff...  Bedframe is a no-no also.  Keep an abrasive around!

Reply:Hey, the Mac is back!!   Yup, mine is great and still yellow. Keeping it clean for the moment. I am having oil leaking as well. My warranty is almost up, too. Better haul it in..like I have time for that.FWIW, I estimate I have about 900+ cuts on the original blade. It is definitely getting too dull. May need to swap soon. I cut some cold rolled 1 1/2 solid....dat did it in!

Reply:Chris, I believe Mac meant from the original group way back at the beginning. There are a few, but not too many. The original fracas cleaned out most. A few stayed, and a couple have come back...but that is it.

Reply:Well, it was nothing I hadn't done several dozen times before. I guess I was on borrowed time. My thinking  is that it was the dull blade that helped it along. It was acting "grabby" just a little before it happened.........  I have to do the same cuts tomorrow. I will be grinding the welds down first...I only have one more blade left.
Reply:Where are you buying your blades, Don?  I need a new one soon and it's time to start looking around.
Reply:I got all of mine from eWarehouseDirect's Epay store. They were the ones that sold me the saw in the first place. They had a run of the blades at 72 bucks.....I got two. Haven't looked for any in a while...might outta since I am down one now. What was the price of teh saw.I just got a price from a local shop $455.00, is this a good price for the saw ? Thanks,Oh ya, one more question...  how is the noise level with the DeWalt DW872 ?Last edited by NnF; 05-08-2006 at 01:09 PM.NnF
Reply:Got a new price...  $419.00.Also, DeWalt has a special, if you buy this saw they will either give you another blade ($119.00) or a 4" Grinder.Sounds too good to me.DDA52, MAC702,  Any troubles with the saw that should be considered before buying?NnF
Reply:Nothing I can think of. Lotta guys don't like the base and clamp, but I have no real issues with them. Just about as good as any of the others I have used.FWIW, I got a recon saw. Only had to shell out $299.00 plus shipping. I would do it again, too.
Reply:I don't like the clamp.  I've had to repair the bottom part that slides back and forth as the cheap retaining ring broke off the first year I had it.  I welded a washer in its place and it's not quite a smooth now, but hasn't broken again. But ANYTHING beats the clamp on the Ridgid! Also, on the DeWalt DW872, you can't quite count on the "toolless" miter clamp.  But at least it somes with the allen wrench that you need and stores it in the base.  Always use the wrench for the final tightening when mitering or it WILL slide out of wherever you set it.
Reply:School me on these cold cut saws. Are they essentially a low-speed chopsaw with a fancy blade? Do most of them use gearboxes or direct drive? If you could slow down a chopsaw would it have the nuts to drive a dry cut blade? These are relatively unknown to me.

Reply:I got my 872 last night, haven't had time to see how it works.Looks great, got a second free blade from DeWalt as a Rebate. Thanks for the info.NnF
Reply:A couple of months ago on OFN there was a thread started on the DW872. At that time Tools-Plus had the best price at $388.00, now they are at $399.00 with the rebate also.I believe shipping is only $6.50. It seems most everyone complains about the vise being a POS. but overall more people prefer DeWalt over the others. I don't own one yet,but when I do buy one it will be the DW872.http://www.tools-plus.com/d-wdw872.htmlLast edited by Captainfab; 06-02-2006 at 05:24 PM.Reason: forgot link
