Any Ideas as to advantages/disadvantages in using a worm drive saw with an abrasive blade? Is it any better /easier then a  standard circular saw? Due to the torque would it be easier on the saw itself? Thanks for any input.
Reply:Well you know these things are best left to 1/8" max, and I woudlnt even go that high if possible.  Secondly, I have thought about this, and while never had the money or the need, I would have thought the worm drive better from performance and longevitiy, but I would be worried about burning even it out too quickly.  Ive havent had the best of luck using these with a circular and not have it cause great strain and wear very quickly.   Perhaps they just aint the right tool.  Since my first experience, I use an angle grinder with a cut off wheel.  Good luck!IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:I've cut some thick stuff with an abrasive blade on a DeWalt worm-drive circular saw.  The worm-drives are higher torque and a lower speed, but they get the job done.  I was cutting slots in a 1/4" plate at the time, and it was all I had handy.
Reply:they have metal cutting blades ,not abrasive that look like wood blades cut steel very well. probably up to 1/2 inch .  friend has a steel yard and most of his cutting is done with a dewalt saw not worm drive with this metal blade and the cuts are very clean and he been using the same saw for years. can't go to home depot for the blade or lowes  ,go to a dewalt service store they carry them there
Reply:I just cut some 3/16 today with an old junker skill saw......I wouldn't dream of doing it with my good circular saw. Ran two cuts, each 4' long - took 1 and a 1/2 of those 7" abrasive blades. What a mess!MM 175 w/ spoolgun
Reply:Been using these blades with a regular skill saw and on the chop saw. So far pretty good with no problemshttp://www.dewalt.com/us/products/ac...categoryID=967
Reply:I have been using the Evolution metal cutting saw with carbide tipped blades for about a year. The metal cutting circular saws are MILES above using an abrasive blade. I just bought a milwaukee that I hope will do as good a job as the evolution.Have a nice dayhttp://www.weldingdata.com/
