Reply:That is super elegant. I really like the desk made in that.PlasmaCam CNC cutterLathe and Band SawClamps
Reply:Looks clean and expensive...Do you make the edges and custom cuts on those stones? It would be nice to see your work process on the stone work if you can.
Reply:holy cow, how heavy are those puppies? look really nice.
Reply:Very nice. For retail purposes, I'd get a better backdrop and get some good pictures taken of them. Then I'd make a website, and put them on craigs list. those are highend tables and will need to be marketed as such. If you can get a hold of any office suppliers, or even hotels and such. Maybe a luxury furniture retailer and get a business relationship going you could be set pretty well. First to find out how much they think you could get for them retail, and how much they'd pay for them wholesale. If you don't mind me asking, How much do you want to make off them. how much does it cost in materials, and how much time goes into each table? There are no problems. There are only solutions. It's your duty to determine the right one.Hobart Handler 210Airco 225 Amp MSM Stinger
Reply:raqider 12 yes I make all the cuts and custom edges triple laminated fully polished chisled edge ( the brown desk look close the picture dosnt show it well lots of contour.
Reply:madduck depending on material thickness used 5 to 6 hundred pounds.
Reply:thorshammer I would like only to be able to retire on my own personal small island (7 to 800 square miles). seriously I have about 1000.00 in materials and 40 hrs. My thinking was there are alot of very artistic guys and projects on here and someone might be able to point me in the right direction.
Reply:well, how much is your time worth? 40 hrs of work at $25 an hour is another $1000, and seems low for artisan work. I did a google search and the only thing I found was a receptionist desk that was 3'x 6' for $5950. so say you find a retailer that will take them on custom order (so you're not stuck with a lot of overhead on materials that you aren't using) if you charged the retailer $2975 (half the total retail price) for the desk, you'd be doing good, and they'd still have some meat on the bone.  thats just under $50 an hr for artisan work. which sounds fair to me. but then again, I'm not the end buyer on this kind of product. I'm sure people looking at buying items like this are used even higher labor rates.Last edited by ThorsHammer; 02-20-2013 at 04:55 PM.There are no problems. There are only solutions. Reply:the type of stuff would be ideal when used in the lobby of large skyscraper buildings in downtown areas where the security officers work. They are probably 3-4 times that size. They are going to have drawers and cable management layouts for phone systems, security systems, CCTV Etc. But those type of installations are in the 10's of thousands of dollars. aim high bro. Not my style but there is definately a market for that stuff in the commercial furnishings business. Your clients will be architects and interior designers. Residential applications would be self contained islands inside "celebrity" style closets to hold clothes and valuables. Again, wicked drawer assemblies and safes will be mandatory. Especially since your sh*t is soo heavy. Again, 10's of thous'. You can do it!
Reply:You might talk to some furniture or kitchen places about putting them in on consignment. You'll have to deal with the small shops vs chain stores though. I could also see marketing them at craft fairs, but the weight and transport will be an issue. Best bet if you go that route would be to do one  or two "signature" pieces, that show your skill and quality and then have a portfolio of really nice pictures and maybe some posters that show other examples. Your market will be fairly limited due to the cost. You won't find a lot of impulse buys at the kind of money you'll need to get for these. As mentioned architects and interior or kitchen designers will be your best bet at marketing something like this, and most items will probably be commissions vs "stock". If this is stuff you are making from "scrap" that's a bit different. I'm thinking if you do counter tops and you are using the leftover "scraps" to make something marketable. You might find a small kitchen "island" or carts to be a bit more sellable than tables..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth! Ronald Reagan
Reply:thorshammer yea your right in my line of thinking hitting all the higher end retail stores and big name designers in boise area a couple of years ago offered at 3000. no takers. took one desk to western idaho fair won judges choice award left a for sale sign on it all week, nothin. Built a large georgous reception area for one of my suppliers Francinni marble and granite every customer that walks through the door comments on its beauty       nothin??? I really do appreciate your thought and input if you have any more please let me know
Reply:DSW I am a albeit small kitchen and bath design remodel contractor nothing but happy customers. I have shown my work at fairs, farmers markets, craft shows, furniture stores, from jackson hole to boise even a few in minote nd. I did have a web site but finally let that go to seemed like I was wasting ten dollars a month. anyways all the input is great but I think locally my market wont sell these, the whole granite market is slow. thanks.
Reply:jimmey pop your right about big buildings but you need an audience with an owner or design firm? and I have thought of islands in the kitchen but in a big closet w safes cooool. 10's of thousands.... cooool. Thanks man the closet thing does make me think it would be nice if it were fun again.
Reply:Stonage,I think you biggest struggle is the market in your area. It's not the location for that type of product. not like LA or NYC would be of any major metro area for that matter. Your best bet is to get a really nice website built up. Something REALLY professional and high class. so basically nothing any one here would frequent. lol. that way you can make your product National and or global instead of local/regional.There are no problems.
