Anyone know if there's a standard dimension from the open end of a hitch receiver tube to the center of the pin hole (for 2" square receiver opening)? See attached image. The one on my Nissan truck measured about 1.5". Making something for a tractor (attached image unrelated), but was also curious in general for workbench applications, etc. Attached Images
Reply:I think they are pretty much standard, so it's a one size fits all type of thing. As far as workbench applications, it's not as critical. You could drill and tap it or weld a nut over the hole and use a set bolt to hold it. You could weld a 1/4 or 3/8" rod to the bolt head so as not to need a wrench to tighten it.
Reply:Just went out and measured both vehicles, 2001 Crown Victoria 2 ¼, 2011 Ford F250 2 ½. So the standard is there is NO Standard.Everlast PowerPro 256, Everlast W300 Cooler, Everlast Cart 250Millermatic 211, Spoolgun 100, Miller HD CartJackson W60 Truesight Digital Auto Darkening, Victor 315 Torch sitting on a Harper 830-86 cart
Reply:I've made a few and I go with 3" but as the above poster mentioned his are less. Go with the 2 1/2" and you should be fine.....Mike
Reply:You got me curious, went out and measured mine. Factory standard hitch on the Blazer / Tahoe / Yukon / Suburban is 2.5"

Reply:I first thought 2.25, but then I really liked the 2.5. So I went with the 3 inch and finalized it at 2.67829 or something like that.
Reply:Thanks for the measurements; looks like there's some variation. I did a crayon rubbing of one of my ball mounts to see just how far back the hole could go and also how much of the ball mount there is to the front side of the hole (see first attached image). The second attached image is what I'm making: A hitch adapter that goes on a category 1 tractor drawbar (which is basically a 26"-long x 2.5"-wide x 1"-thick bar with 7/8"-diameter pins sticking out each end and a bunch of 3/4" holes in it). There are also cross-holes out toward the ends of the pins, but I didn't model those in. Anyway, the piece of receiver tubing is 6" long and I just centered the pin hole in it. That way you don't have to worry about having it facing one way or the other when installing it if the drawbar is already in the lower lift arms. The 5/8"-diameter hitch pin will clear the tops of those bolt heads by about 5/16". Attached Images
Reply:I always use 2 3/4" end of tube to hole center.Tiger Sales: AHP Distributor www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P, Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma. For Sale: Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun. Lincoln Wirematic 250 |
