Hey All, I am making a coffee table as my first welding project and need some ideas. I am wondering how I should support the legs, if at all. I am debating taking pieces 4-6 inches long and running them 45 degrees from the underside of the table to the legs. Or should I do like the stretched out "H" on the bottom of the legs and maybe add a bottom shelf. I like the idea of the stretched out "H" at the bottom because it will be a lot less cutting then all my 45's and then I can add another shelf. Here is a picture of the coffee table with the "H" i was thinking about https://www.google.com/search?q=coff...e%3B1872%3B845 Attached Images
Reply:Something like this.Yours is a bit stronger then mine, the reason why I did add lower to stabilize and strengthen the legs.I thought about making another square like the top but was running out of material and would not have had enough. So I figured that wouldn't look bad and this is how it ended up.
Reply:Nice work guys, I have made many a table with identical materials and techniques!Miller diversion 165Miller mig 211Hypertherm pm 30Milwaukee 6230 14 inch chop sawMd 45 mag drill (RIP; fell on its head)New MD 45! Thanks to the esposa! Finally got an O/A setup
Reply:Thanks guys, that's exactly what i plan on doing. Is that painted?
Reply:I am thinking with mine: on the two outer sections I am going to inlay wood that matches the trim of the living room, then maybe metal in the middle? or expanded steel? Or maybe even tile. Watcha think?
Reply:Yes mine is painted. I think the wood would look great on the ends, I think expanded metal would look a little off, maybe under a piece of glass. (if you go with glass make sure it's safety glass)Tile on the other hand could look real good too.
Reply:Thanks KCB, once i get all my "final" griding done I am going to put some primer on it!
Reply:This is what I did on a similar table
Reply:that glass sticking out past the metal scares snot out of me,kcb37...
Reply:Yeah that piece is gone, mom and dad have it now, they need to get a piece of safety glass for it.
Reply:Looks real nice! dang my welds look like crap compared to these. guess need some more practice |
