I've been working to design a rear tube bumper for my 2005 Tundra to increase my departure angle and also carry a full size spare. I will try to explain the design as best as possible. My current plan is a simple tube bumper that wraps around the rear fenders. I want to trim the rear bed sides from the bottom of the flare to the bottom of the tailgate like so:Then I want a simple single tube bumper with a receiver. Along the lines of this but obviously angled:For the receiver I would sandwich it between the main tube and a tube that curves below it, kinda like this:I will tie the side tubes back into the mounting plates as well as the receiver tube somewhat along the lines of this:With me so far?For the swingout I want to weld a 1 1/4" tube to the main bumper tube and then slip a 1 1/2" tube over it forming the hinge (I know more thought goes into this but this is just quick and to the point). Then weld the remaining swingout frame to the 1 1/2" tube.Pretty much just like this only welding to a main tube bumper vs plate:Then the swingout itself:My concerns are, will the tube bumper be able to support the weight of a 80# tire? What's the best way to mount the tube to the frame mounts? I'm mocking up final measurements this weekend and should have a drawing of some sort that will hopefully better show what I'm trying to do.I am completely open to suggestions and any constructive criticism.
