After years of needing one I finally took some time and built one for myself.  I was sick and tired of tripping over Steel on Dunnage. Its all 1"X1" Square Tubing 11ga.  Mounted with 3"X3/8" Lag Bolts.  Each post has 4 Bolts. The Horizontal Post are tilted back towards the wall at 15*Some Blue , Some Red & Some GreyProverbs 16:2-3.2 "All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."

Reply:Nice looking rack......what are you going to do with the extra floor space.
Reply:NiceYou need to add to your sig line, "A mile of lead""Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:I'd probably take them back down off the wall and cap the ends of the tubes, to keep little critters, like spiders, from making the inside the tube their home.ESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
Reply:Those look awesome on the wall. Be careful lifting heavy pieces of material and extending over the bench though. That could easily cause a back injury.
Reply:nice looking "clean" project. great use of space. with the tubing ends open you will find yourself sticking short pieces of stock in them. cool looking trucks too.
Reply:Looks great.  If you do end up taking them down to cap the ends you might want to add another lag bolt right at the top - the last set of extensions (extra long) wants to pry the top of the vertical piece off the wall.  Probably hold fine either way, but I have a similar set-up and often find myself standing on the lower bars and/or grabbing onto the top ones to pull myself up.  An extra 200lbs at the end of one of the top bars will act like a big crow bar trying to pry that last bolt out of the wall.
Reply:Well, it is about time! LOL my stock is on the floor. I'll bet getting the hangers up and level was the work. The building was the best part of the project .Cheers  Greg
Reply:I'm about to copy your idea. Excepty mine are going out side against the 4x4 fence post.  probably do a sheet of tin on the top as well.
Reply:Thanks for the positive feedback guys!  Its appreciated.Being 5'5" has its disadvantages.  This morning I had to move the whole Rack up 7" so I could fit my Chop saw and Drill press on the work bench.  So rather than using a wooden ladder I thought to myself, "your a Welder, Build a Ladder" Here's what I came up with. Some Blue , Some Red & Some GreyProverbs 16:2-3.2 "All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord. 3 Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans."
Reply:I'm not saying your welds are bad or won't hold, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to add a failsafe. Weld some fitted strap spacers between the rungs and you'll never have to worry.Lincoln PrecisionTig 275Miller 251Miller DialArc 250Bridgeport millHossfeld bender & diesLogan shaperJet 14 X 40 latheSouth Bend 9" 'C'Hypertherm 900Ellis 3000 band saw21"Royersford ExcelsiorTwo shops, still too many tools.

Reply:May want to put some rubber chair stoppers on the bottom of the ladder legs to keep it from sliding on the concrete.JamesMillermatic 252 in the shopMiller Bobcat on a trailer for the feild repairs around the ranch.Mostly weld on equipment or pens around the ranch.
Reply:Another great excuse for fab/weld. I always find it amazing how much room and safety one can gain from such a simple solution. Nicely done and agreed that some nice soft rubber feet for that ladder you built would be a wise move on a slippery concrete floor. There's some inspiration for your fellow metalheads, now onto my garage (as I spin my back to it in disgust and walk the other way!!).  When a welder tells you to "stick it", what do they really mean?"In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell
