Looking for info on a Hobart Model G-236. I'm looking at one this weekend. Has anyone got one or used one? What should I look out for? Any help is good help! Yes, I have been looking at the Hobart site
Reply:O.K. gang, just got home with the Hobart G-236! Its rated at 25v@200amp as a welder, and 5kw generator with 2-230v plugs and 4-120v plugs. All for 100.00! I am so excited. It needs a set of tires,  a muffler, and it dies when I take off the battery, so there is a little work involved but I don't mind. The leads that came with it were REAL long but the insulation was falling off, so they will be recycled. I have never had a dc welder before. What are some good general rods to use? Going to look at a hydraulic pump mounted in the tank with a motor on it tomarrow.
Reply:good luck with your "new" machine..What are some good general rods to use?

Reply:hmm.. not at all familiar with the welder, but in the automotive world dying when the battery is disconnected is a sign of a bad alternator or generator...
Reply:Vdub, thats what I was thinking. Just figured there would be something that would maintain the battery. If not, I'd have to chance it dying before the job is done. That and I'd have to charge the bat. after every use. Thanks Zap, I figured you'd be along sooner or later. The Wisconsin motor that powers the unit is a thd-2, anyone know if it should be able to charge the battery?
