Hi All,I have a dumb question on using a ring roller.  I just bought a cheap one for a couple projects I am doing.  Just to test it and try to understand how to use it I took a 19" piece of 1/4" round and ran it through.  it made a nice arc but nowhere close to a ring.  There is not much to adjust so how do you roll a ring ?Sorry for the dumb question but thanks for any help in advance. Ron

Reply:Thanks Sandy, I thought you may need to make multiple passes but the instructions that came with it kinda confused me.  I will post some pictures of my first project which is for a food and water bowl stand for our pet wolf Mingan's outdoor pen.  I made one using a wheel from a go-cart as a bending jig which worked OK but I wanted an eaier way to make flat and round metal rings!!!
Reply:I use a ring roller from Shop Outfitters. As stated above you need to make multiple passes to get the ring round. On my bender you have to cut the stock longer than the actual size needed. This way you can cut off the 2 flats on the end of the ring. After you cut the "flats" off you put the ring through for a final pass and this will give you a circle. Now you can butt the ends together and clamp it in a vise for the butt weld.

Reply:I have the cheapo HF vrsion and I was able to get it to roll down to a 3" circle.  Like was mentioned above, I made multiple passes, made it long, trimmed the excess and welded it together. Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:Hi All,Thanks much for the help/comments. I have been getting much better rings using a longer rod to start!  Flat stock seems to roll much better than round but now that things seem to be working better I have some new ideas.  It is amazing when you start playing with this stuff how much of the things you ignored in school when you were a kid you find you need...like PI...LOL.
