I want to use stainless wire for a project, I do not want to purchase high dollar large rolls, is there something I can purchase or build to be able to put short rolls with the small hole diameter on my machine?
Reply:There is a thread on here where someone made a jig to take wire from a larger spool and transfer it to the smaller 1 lb spools. I did a quick search and couldn't find it but maybe someone else is familiar enough with it that they can post a link to it.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:thanks,............I was thinking of welding a nut on the existing spool holder, then thread in a bolt and put the smaller wire on that so it would have the spring tension, would have to use 2 bolts so wire wouldn't back off bolt?? I am not sure the angle would get the wire through smoothly?

Reply:I've done it in a pinch just left the spool in the cabinet so it spun up against the back

Reply:Use a piece of , IIRC, 2" pipe to go over the large diameter spool holder, then weld a piece of flat bar onto the side of it. Drill the flat bar for whatever size bolt the small diameter spool hole is, and tack a bolt it it. Use a spring a couple of washers and a nylock nut to hold the spool.

Reply:I am welding cast to steel, I have researched this multiple times, and believe using stainless will be the very best choice for what I am doing, If I can figure out how to build a roller that will work on small roles I will get this tested and give the results, I am building multiple projects with cast bottoms and steel tops, I have them all welded up but can see cracks
