Couple pictures (sorry for the quality) of a 3 drum water tube steam boiler I'm constructing on and off over the last couple years. All material is A106 B sch 40 pipe. Fittings are A105 butt weld or socket weld type. All stick welded F3,F4 with a Lincoln 250-300 Ideal Arc and a Miller CST 280 inverter. Reply:Or is right. Got no way to download or email these pictures to my computer unfortunately.
Reply:1. WELCOME (looks like you are relatively new to posting here).2. THANKS for trying to post pics.  We love pics!3. What sort of boiler is this?  (for heating a home or running a train?  It's kinda hard to tell from the pics  (ha ha)).  Is it a personal project?KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:Its a 3 drum watertube boiler, and will generate saturated steam and have a MAWP of 200psi. It will have 100sqft of heating surface and burn solid fuel. What you see in the photos are basically the mud drums and downcomer points. The holes for the generating tubes are not complete and need to be roto broached to finish. I have the steam drum to complete as well. It will be constructed from sch 40 12" A106B pipe and butt weld A105 caps. It also needs to be roto broached for steam generating tubes, check valve, water glass, surface blowdown points. A dome needs to be fabricated to draw off dry saturated steam. This is also where the main steam stop and safety valves will be located etc. Lots of work to do, but can hardly wait to put the first fire in it!
Reply:Crazy, but if you put 3D glasses on, those pics are clear as crystal!who wants to bet at least 5 guys are gonna try it Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....

Reply:what are you gonna do with it? my only experience with watrertube boilers  is replacing the ones that were allowed to run dry (watertubes do that real quick when things go wrong) and lifted about 6" off the pad..i guess the navy loves em but they probably  have competent help in the boiler room..

Reply:Sorry folks, gonna take some new pics shortly and mail them to my computer. As to what am I going to do with it. Why make steam of course. I may have a duplex Smart Turner steam pump to operate or a hybrid gas to steam engine conversion to power. My wife thinks Im cracked, but hey...its hip to be square!
Reply:Lets try this again. Here are some pics of the mud drums and downcomer sections of the boiler.
Reply:And a few more....
Reply:Much better pics! I like steam-powered anything...I did sign up for a course to learn to drive a steam train...just never worked out with my schedule, though. Now I get it...you are a tinkerer!  Looking forward to seeing how you end up using this.  I suppose a steam-powered generator makes sense, if you have combustible resources available.  What do you plan to fire this with?  Wood, coal, natural gas, or something else?  (I suppose you could mess with people's minds and pre-heat the water with solar collectors, then use whatever readily available resource you have (old pallets?) to make steam. Are you going to have a system to re-use heat (i.e. use cooled steam to pre-heat water? Is this like a steam engine, where you will have to keep injecting water into the system? Are you planning to use steam to turn a turbine (like the big power plants) or are you going to use a piston (like a train)? How much power are you planning to generate?  Are you going to use something like the generator from a portable gasoline generator?  Or something like the PTO powered generator used to fit on the back of tractors?KevLast edited by Machine_Punk; 03-14-2013 at 12:00 AM.Kevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
