I just picked up a hardly used SP100,infinite voltage control and Im very impressed with its performance,it dials way down and does real well on 18 and 20 gauge also does real well on 1/8, Im just curious if any body has owned both and how the newer 140c performs vs the old,,thanks jim Attached ImagesEsab Multimaster 260Esab Caddy160IEsab 161 STLESAB powercut 650Esab 220i tigLincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln IdealArc 250INE SKYLINE 1500Klutch 140iMEASURE TWICE IS FOR MORONS
Reply:Well, I have an SP-100, and a buddy has a 140c, and the 140c is definitely a nicer machine. Mainly because of the 2-roll wire drive, which is like a smaller version of the drive in their larger MIGs and feeders. Also seems to have a smoother arc, but its been a while since I've used his so I can't compare right now.Still, they're just 120V machines, and the difference isn't that great- despite the numbers, there's only so much power you can get out of a 120V line.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I think the old SP100 runs better than our new180.
Reply:I tried out a Powermig 140 when they first came out and it welds pretty nice but it's hard to beat the arc on the SP series machines. For light material or tacking my SP135 is my go to machine. If that is the gun I think it is take goood care of it because they were made for Lincoln by Bernard and are no longer supported.
Reply:John Im looking at more or less the performance on the bottom end comparison ,18/20 sheet metal vs the newer 140 power migIronrail is that new machine a 180c or a 180t? VW guy thats what I really like is the low end on it for 18/20 gauge sheet metal,it does have a weird gun on it,the tips dont thread in sort of a friction fit.Esab Multimaster 260Esab Caddy160IEsab 161 STLESAB powercut 650Esab 220i tigLincoln Precision Tig 225Lincoln IdealArc 250INE SKYLINE 1500Klutch 140iMEASURE TWICE IS FOR MORONS
Reply:I always liked the SP plus series, better then the tapped version. I don't have too much experience on the 120 volt SP machines, but some. The arc is going to be a bit crisper on the older machine, and have less wet out on the top end, compared to the 140C . My friend that sold a million of the older machines prefers them, and I prefer  the 140C model. I had two SP-175 plus machines, and one of them. was probably better then any of the new ones. Sweet unit, but I was able to trade for a mint low use MM-185. So if yours works for what you want, it probably does not matter which machine is better.Could be better or not, would be my answer..Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
Reply:I bought new $500 the first 230v SP-130-T rated 130a/20v/30% has same part number as SP-170-T transformer, choke coil, and switch ***. And has same specs as SP-180T. I heard there better built 100% usa in ohio and weld better. I have org receite and box. It looks and runs like new. Never hade problem. Considering there sold as cheap line I welded 1/4 stuctural steel .045 intersheild 8000lb 5x10 util trailer in 2 days no problem. I have purchased 230amp power mig but that little box is still very flexible and I still use it. Attached ImagesLast edited by conkgle; 11-14-2012 at 11:23 AM.Reason: image
