Seen this, while I doubt it will have any real effects it is still interesting and mentions effecting high frequency stuff. So no aluminum welding friday or saturday!http://www.usatoday.com/story/weathe...?csp=fbfanpage

Reply:A warning about solar flair means that they have observed a large flare up on the sun (search Youtube for videos - pretty cool) and that some of the particals from this flare might be heading toward earth.Solar Flares happen all the time. The particals from the solar flare hit the earth all the time. The most immediate affect are the "Northerm Lights".  The northern lights are caused by solar flares.A side affect that you may or may not notice is that radio transmissions of all kinds could encounter extra static.  For most of us, that just means our smart phone will take a bit longer to download stuff - hardly noticeable.Remember, its only a guess that we will be hit at all.  The most critical stuff is typically our satellites in orbit.  Depending on the satellite, the might be shutdown (put into a mode called 'safe hold') to protect the instruments on board.BTW, with the tinfoil hat - depending on the shape, the hat could actually amplify (or focus) electomagentic energy.  You need the total wrap around to protect you (Faraday cage).Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX

Reply:There will be a huge effect on welding if you have a machine that uses external power and the power goes out.old Miller spectrum 625 Lincoln SP-135 T, CO2+0.025 wireMiller model 250 and WP-18V torchCraftsman 100amp AC/DC and WP-17V torchCentury 115-004 HF arc stabilizerHome made 4 transformer spot welderHome made alternator welder

Reply:But I'd keep wearing the hat just in case, especially when outside and amongst other people!!!

Reply:Even though we are over half way through this solar cycle, which started in 2013, it can still mess with a lot of electronics. Especially 2 way communication devices such as airplane communications, ham, and CB. I don't see an issue with any kind of welding, to our eye anywayHome hobbiest:Build all sorts of BBQ pits & smokers (trailer & non)Lincoln 225 Cracker box (antique)O/P torchRedneck tools out the a$$.They get me by!

Reply:Somehow though, it does "interfere" with the nations electric grid, or so they claim. I'm no expert on that, so I'll leave it to someone else to explain in detail  Home hobbiest:Build all sorts of BBQ pits & smokers (trailer & non)Lincoln 225 Cracker box (antique)O/P torchRedneck tools out the a$$.They get me by!
Reply:You might see some voltage fluctuations in the mains to your house. If you have a transformer machine, it could translate into fluctuations in amps at the stinger or torch.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:Well I'd say if the power was knocked out that would effect my welding a bit?
