Went hunting at my buddy's farm and saw a wilton vise sitting by the scrap pile. Got to looking at it and it all works and moves great but....... The back side (jaw) of the vise broke off almost even with the flat anvil part. The question is ... How hard would it be to fix. If I ground it flat, cleaned it and welded on some steel to make a new back jaw.  It is cast. So what filler would I use to tig it up with.  It's a nice big vise and I would hate to see it go to the scrap yard.  What do ya think?? Thanks.        JamesPrecision tig 225Millermatic 185 w/ spoolgunLincoln 140Dewalt cold saw

Reply:Welding would not be my 1st choice since it's cast. Brazing might be a better option, especially if the parts fit tight, and I'd use Oxy fuel not tig to do the repair..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size.
