used welding equipment

hello im  trying to find some info on some equipment im thinking of purchasing. The first item is an arcair gouging torch for forty bucks. I do not know the model number. it looks beat up but the guy says it works great. what should i look for to make sure the torch works properly.  The other item is a weld fume extractor for 50 bucks.  it is an older lincoln.  It doesnt have an arm or any hose. i didnt know if there were expensive filters etc.  i know these items are not alot of money but i dont want to waste any.  any info or tips to help me find out if these items are functional is appreciated. thanks
Reply:In regards to the Arcair, depending on how beat up it is, you might be better off looking on flebay. Forty dollars is cheap, and if it works it's a good deal. I got my K3000 from flebay, for $115, in great shape. The shut off leaks a little when off, but I heard it was supposed to do that. Reply:The only hidden damage is an airarc torch is the power conductor inside the hose. They do break and can be replaced. The gas valve has two settings, high and low flow. Basically cut and cool down. Is the smoke extractor and wall mount, floor mount or mobile unit. Roll around or shop vac size. If you can get the code number and post a picture. we might be able to figure out what is missing, and what you need to use it.
Reply:I think I paid $40.00-$50.00 for my brand new 2000 model. What a great setup, if you don't have a monster compressor. Perfect for smaller shops. 40 psi/ 8 cfm and 450 amps max.. I only have 5 hp Curtis that puts out about 18 CFM @ 175 psi. Reply:Not only that, but aren't the Arcairs rebuildable?
