It is always good when the customer calls in a panic because the new very expensive part they sent Aggregate Industries, is wrong from the factory. The piece was supposed to have "lugs" on it for the dual purpose of lifting it in to the crusher, and the main bull gear rides on rollers that mount to these. After the initial panic, I showed up and got them all straightened out, even got paid straight away with my new fancy credit card taking thingy for my phone. This is the old part, pretty thrashed from life in a mine. These are the lugs that are missing from the new part, here is where I come in.Me setting up, you can see the cone for the crusher sitting there as well. The new lugs they had flown in via courier, from the factory mounted to the new part. All the parts were wrong and needed to be modified to get the dimensions needed to work. All set up and ready to weld, the procedure they sent me called for GMAW E70s-6 and a 350 degree preheat, I called to try to get the procedure changed and still have not gotten a call back 3 days later Whatever I tented off and MIG welded away. All done and 2 happy customers, the company that sent the parts out, and Aggregate IndustriesLast edited by TozziWelding; 04-05-2013 at 01:18 PM.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."

Reply:I wanted to use 7018 with a preheat because of the wind, but they never got back to me so I followed there procedure that I had.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Rosebud and a tempstick, I run propylene, so no 1/7th rule for me. Preheat was 350 because that is what the procedure called for.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Man, you get all the fun jobs! Nice work, as always. Yeah, the Square is great for getting paid. Couple of days and the money's in the checking acct. I had one customer that was either 45 - 60 days for invoicing, or same day with the corporate card. That was a no brainer. Keep the pics coming, I'm getting burnt out on the 115V mig carts!!! This is the good welding porn."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:This makes me miss my last job. I got to do that kind of stuff every day. I'm still surprised the procedure was hard wire. All the repair and mfg at the JCI factory on the crushers is flux core with a 350* pre heat. It's amazing how similar different products are. We're there brass inserts in the threads or was the bowl cast iron? You may have not seen all that other stuff. Just wondered. |
