Had a tap break off in a part I was making.  Of course it was the last hole.  There was a substantial amount of tap sticking out.I put a nut over the broken tap,  applied some bronze, cooled part and after a few twist  out it came. Took more time to thinking about what to do, than brazing and removng. I was using an Irwin tap with the pilot.  They suck.  The pilot make them too long and to flexible for smaller bits.  I was prepared with an extra tap from Ace hardware.  It was quite a bit stiffer and noticeably better.  I recently went through several Irwins while tapping some 1/16 stainless.  I was able to return those.  Most of those ended up breaking teeth right after the pilot and then will not ever start.  One broke before clearing the pilot. They came with the drill bit.   Oh well,  Just wanted to share my applied knowledge courtesy WW.The orange tool is my Harbor freight band file.  It belongs in the  HF tools that work.  I got a used Dynabrade with several attachments , too.  It doesn't compare for attachments. However for what it is and the price it is a good tool. Attached ImagesLast edited by tapwelder; 12-14-2012 at 08:21 PM.
