Like the title asks, does anyone have the Northern Tools 40" Combination Shear / brake / roll? It's only rated to 1mm (20ga) steel, but I assume that is for a full width cut/bend/roll, and you could do shorter stuff that's heavier. I don't have a lot of need for those tools, but it's really handy to have them when you do need them. Can't justify brand new - but found a used one that looks great for about 1/3 of the new price. So, are they decent enough for occasional use? Any input? Thanks,Jason
Reply:No used machinery dealers in your area? There are lots here...Look there.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Zap - I found one of these for a good price - just wanting to hear from people that have used them. I'd much rather have some good Edwards or Pexto sheet metal equipment, but way too expensive...

Reply:I have the 30" Clarke Shear/Brake/Roll and it works great up to 16 gauge but you just have to take it a little slower. I think Northern and HF sell similar tools, they are made by the same company but branded differently.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:Yeah - that's a pretty cool looking machine! But way bigger than I need...I bought the Northern 3 in one combination machine used for less than 1/3 of the new price, and didn't have to pay freight. This is the exact machine - http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/w...t_6970_623_623They hadn't used it much, and hadn't even bothered to remove the cosmolene on most of the machined surfaces. The slip rolls had never been used, and the brake and shear very, very little.I prefer to have nice, good brand tools I can be proud of owning, but for as little sheet metal work as I do this one will fit the bill nicely for under $200! Slip rolls, shear and brake for that price I couldn't turn it down! |
