So I walked up to the foreman and a glowing mag drill. He says boy this thing runs hot. Yes they do if they are not moving air.I got it apart and somehow the fan splines have melted and the fan lifted up into another plastic housing above it. It does not look like a good set up to begin with as the fab is held in place with splines and press fit. I don't know if it overheated first and melted or it somehow had the splines rip off first. No part number listed in parts fishe' either.Sent from my SCH-I545 using TapatalkCRIME SCENES, COURT DATES, FUNERALS, RIDING THROUGH THE CITY WITH A BITCH THAT IS JUST BEAUTIFUL IT'S JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL.
Reply:That sucks. May have to call them and see what they can come up with.GravelThe difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference.
Reply:Sounds like debris locked up the fan and the motor powered through the splines.
Reply:Twenty years ago I had a Milwaukee 1/2 sheet sander lock up.  It was a couple of years old, but looked new.  I took it to a local warranty station, and they covered it.  The fan was over sized, possibly due to a worn mold.
Reply:Well the gm said he would call Milwaukee about the fan so I figured it would be like everything else and made a new sleeve to put into the fan. I really did not think of anything else to try but it does not look like finding a new fan for it would be very hard. It might not be the original one but that probably is a small matter.Believe it or dont' the splines were still intact. The area behind the splines is what melted. Unless of course when the melt cooled it just formed new splines but it did a pretty good job of it considering there was space between the fan and the splines.I did think to ask how old the thing was but I figured they would be smart enough to say something about the warranty but now that I rethink it I just don't know.
Reply:Whew! What a pain in the arse this turned out to be. I finally got it back together today and it seems fine.I had a hell of a time putting it back together and could only have high gear. Low would engage if I used a pair of pliers but obviously I did not like that. I don't know exactly what I ended up correcting to get it to work but it is smoother than I remember the original action to be. She is moving it like an air boat now!
